as Cadet to Chief Officer in H.C. Sleigh, Melbourne, experienced
sailing with vessels such as tankers, cargo vessels and
passenger ships with ports of call worldwide.
1976
- Obtained
Master Certificate (F.GN.) in Southampton University (School
of Navigation) at 27.
- Joined
Kapal Management (a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Shipyard)
as Ship Master.
1979
- Joined
the C.Y. Tung Group in Singapore, where as Port Captain,
he managed a fleet of twelve vessels.
1980
- Left
C. Y. Tung Group to form his own company, Asia Carrier Sdn.
Bhd. Asia Carrier Sdn. Bhd owned five tankers, including
a bitumen carrier. All tankers were chartered to Shell Malaysia
to carry petroleum products within South-East-Asia. It also
carried cargoes for Petronas and ESSO Malaysia.
1986
- Formed
Straits Link Ship Agencies Pte. Ltd with Malaysian Shipping
Agencies. It obtained ISO9002 certification in 1998 and
subsequently changed its name to Straits Link Ship Agencies
& Management Pte. Ltd.
Capt.
Tan displays a wealth of experience in all aspects of ship
business and ship management. A shipmaster who has had extensive
experience with various types of vessels, his 12-year experience
at sea and 18-year experience on shore since 1980 have provided
him with the necessary technical expertise and experience
to run the commercial aspects of a shipping business.
He presently
owns a 12000 DWT vessel, which is managed by Straits Link
Ship Agencies & Management Pte. Ltd along with two other
vessels, one container and one bulk carrier. It is also the
agent for Genshipping Pacific Lines (Pte) Ltd, which has a
liner service from India to Far East.
These
two vessels will be time chartered to Genshipping Pacific
Lines (Pte) Ltd and managed by Straits Link Ship Agencies
& Management Pte. Ltd.
